A Certain Segment

Writing about the announcement by Kandi Terry that she will be taking on Assemblyman Ron Canestrari in the 106th Assembly District, Inside Politics writes “Terry’s announcement Wednesday wasn’t well attended by the media”. Wouldn’t the Times Union have something to do with the lack of media attention? And shouldn’t the Times Union explain why they chose not to cover an announcement by a major party candidate in a race for an Assembly District that includes parts of Albany, Saratoga and Rensselaer counties?

The best part of the column was the following:

“The news release from Terry’s announcement included this fascinating tidbit that’s sure to appeal to a certain segment of the voting public: ‘Her grandfather is Peter Corey, a top NASCAR dirt track modified star of the 1950s and 1960s.”

Times Union: Should that “certain segment” wipe their hands and feet before reading the newspaper? Maybe the comment about “certain segments” and that type of attitude is why the Times Union is losing circulation. Belittling someone’s choice of a sport or hobby – especially the second largest viewed sport in America – is elitist and more than a little dumb.

Times Union reporters, your table at Noche awaits you.
