The Democrats Extinguish STAR

Today's Times Union reports on the "surprise" of voters who are finding swollen tax bills landing in mailboxes. After the Democrats decided to increase spending on welfare and other programs for New York City, it was left to upstaters to pick up the tab. With Democrats in control of the Assembly and the Senate for the first time in decades, the STAR deductions didn't stand a chance and were axed by the Dems.

This isn't much of a surprise, except, of course, for all those voters who pulled the lever for Democrats in 2006 and 2008 at the promise that tax hikes wouldn't follow. Expect Rensselaer County Democrats to get the first of many doses of gratitude from voters this November.
