The Paterson team worked hard to make the rug story a disaster. The rug merchant donated $8,000 to the Spitzer-Paterson campaign of 2006. And after claiming the rug was needed because the Mansion is a "museum" belonging to the people, the Paterson press operation would not allow any photos of the rug. Just plain dumb.
