A picture is usually worth a thousand words, but since Eliot Spitzer is probably going to be taxing those next, we're going to have to keep this short: Rich McNally lied.
Designated by the arrow at left is Ian Silverman, the legal rookie who Rich McNally hired as part of his pledge not to politicize the DAs office. Designated by the arrow at right, of course, is Boss Tom Wade. It turns out that in addition to being a lawyer uninvolved with politics, he was the president of the Rensselaer County Young Democrats and donated to McNally's campaign on four occasions. This brings the probability that he was based on his credentials to exactly zero. In the front row, smiling for the photo op, are four of the county legislators who decide Silverman's salary. Hopefully, Silverman made the most of his time with Wade discussing stuff like how Wade extorted money out of BOE employees at Christmastime last year. It would certainly make prosecuting him a lot easier.
A quick message to the legislature Dems: Silverman really does need that raise so he can cover his assessment from Boss Wade.
