Bylaw Blow-up

As he is being investigated for allegedly shaking down employees at the Rensselaer County Board of Elections, county Dem boss Tom Wade has been hit by one of his own with a lawsuit over a change in party bylaws.

North Greenbush Democrat Chairman Jeff Spain brought the lawsuit late last week. We hear Spain and possibly others believe the bylaw change gives Wade too much power.

Or maybe the lawsuit is a pre-emptive strike, because Spain may have forgotten to get his 2 percent “assessment” in to the boss.

Spain is from one of the oldest and most respected Democratic families in the county, so the lawsuit is a serious vote of no-confidence for Boss Wade. The question is whether other town chairs will join Spain in the legal action.

On File

Ominously, word leaked out that the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s office has a “opened a file” on the Wade-BOE extortion allegations. Word on the street is that the file may soon turn into a cabinet, as Wade’s associates have not been shy about offering to speak in support of the allegations brought forward by former BOE employees Archie Robinson and Dick Weaver. And the letter by Commissioner Ed McDonough in support of Wade has raised eyebrows among loyal Dems, instead of putting out the fire.
