Dem-olition Derby?

The shockwaves from the bizarre – and quick – endorsement of “Jimmy” Conroy continue to reverberate in the Democratic Party in Rensselaer County. Word is, a primary could be in the offing and it could be a preview of a rematch between the pro-Wade/LaPosta forces and their opponents.

Dems allied with former Co-Chair Lynne Mahoney may be readying to take on Conroy in a primary. We’re hearing Dems like Fourth Council District Councilman Bill Dunne and one-time County Legislature candidate Anne Rua are among those testing the idea of a primary to knock Conroy out of the box.

It means the headaches continue for county Dems. They thought they had a strong ticket in Troy headed by Joe Riley, by their intra-party squabbling and strange alliances made by Wade to enable his election as county chair have fractured the already fragile organization. Now Dems believe Conroy will flush the entire city ticket down the drain. Add that to a weak candidate for DA and no candidate for Sheriff, and you can place the Rensselaer County Dems on the critical condition list.
