Feeling A Bit Gassy

The man with all the answers, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer (D-Soundbite), said the federal government should break up the “monopoly” that exists between the major oil companies. The “monopoly” is why we are all paying more at the pumps, sez Senator Chuck. We’ll see how serious Senator Chuck is on the issue by waiting for him to file legislation to break up the “monopoly” instead of simply holding a press conference.

It might have been better if Senator Chuck had held a press conference right outside Assembly Speaker Silver’s door. You see, both the Senate’s Republican majority and Assembly’s Republican minority have filed legislation doing away with the state sales tax when gasoline prices go over $2 a gallon. Only Assembly boss Shelly has refused to go along with the tax cut. Instead of tilting at the “monopoly”, Senator Chuck could have gotten his fellow party member to go along with legislation that would really save New Yorkers some of their hard-earned bucks.
