Spencer's Swing

The latest Zogby poll shows a swing of 10 points in the race for U.S. Senate in New York State. Ms. Hillary dropped 7 points, with presumptive GOP challenger John Spencer gaining 3 points. Zogby now has the race at 54 % (Clinton) to 33 % (Spencer).

Still a pretty good margin for Ms. Hillary. But keep in mind that Ms. Hillary was leading by a margin of 60% to 30 % just in January. And Spencer is gaining at a time when President Bush is still comparatively weak in the polls.

Spencer can gain big time upstate if he reminds those of us in Appalachia – as upstate has been termed by Spitzer – that Ms. Hillary promised to bring new jobs and opportunity. So far, she and Chuck Schumer have been unable to live to their promises of making progress in improving the economy across the state. It’s only early April.
