Foiled Again

The Times Union ran an above-the-fold article (April 6) charging Senator Joe Bruno with “blocking” an “important” bill regarding the state’s Freedom of Information Law (FOIL). But boy, read the entire story, and tell us if you don’t see the factual stretch marks.

The “blocking” charge gets more dubious when you realize that Sen. Bruno has had the FOIL bill for an entire two weeks. Two weeks! Where were the TU stories about Shelly Silver blocking bills to strengthen penalties for sex offenders, violent criminals and general inaction on important budget and fiscal issues? The gentleman from lower Manhattan sat on that legislation for much longer than two weeks, we would note.

To say that this issue, at this point, deserves a story is a stretch. To say it belongs above-the-fold in the Capital Region’s largest newspaper is just ridiculous.
