The biggest political news last week was the blockbuster fundraiser by North Greenbush Council Lou Desso at Paulo Lombardi's in Wynantskill. Desso, who may be a candidate for County Legislature, drew nearly 300 to a fundraiser that had longtime political observers talking about his popularity.
In 2007, Desso showed his clout by winning a Republican primary and then, just weeks later, winning the Democratic nomination at a North Greenbush Democrat caucus. Desso is off to a great start for Legislature if his fundraiser is any indication.
Desso's big fundraiser is reminiscent of the packed house Mike "Pickles" Picarillo drew last summer to his planned campaign for County Legislature. Picarillo was recently appointed to the Legislature, helping bolster GOP legislative candidates in Troy.
